Sonja Cvetković – Music practice in Niš since the late 19th century to the beginning of the Second World War – the ideological, cultural and artistic context

The monograph of dr Sonja Cvetković Music practice in Niš since the late 19th century to the beginning of the Second World War - the ideological, cultural and artistic context is the result of extensive research that significantly enrich the present knowledge about Niš musical life by factual fund. Such studies are very important for Serbian music historiography because until now the history of Serbian music, has mostly been written as a history of Belgrade musical life. Methodological contribution has also equal value, because the way in which the material is contextualized and problematized enabled a new understanding of development trends of Serbian music of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Cultural approach of similarly oriented researches is in the focus of the humanities in the European scientific area, getting specific explication in musicology in that way, both at the theoretical and at the application level. It is this - inadequately covered - theoretical space that is included in this monograph: its contents include a broader, general consideration of selected topics, as well as specific approaches to different aspects of musical practice in diachronically conceived perspective.
