The exchange is a part of the celebration of the year of the Edict of Milan and a way to strengthen the relations between the two cities York and Niš. "The 24” (Department of Music, University of York, England, led by Professor Graham Bier and the Faculty of Arts, University of Niš, led by the Dean Suzana Kostić, organize and coordinate a cooperation to exchange the musical expression, mutually presenting the music programs in two cities, in Niš, Serbia and in York, England. The goal of this joint presentation of the young artists is showing the young people as the promoters of the universal human values and the best messangers of contemporary meanings of the messages of the Edict of Tolerance. The messages of tolerance may be expressed through various forms of social representation, one of them being a mutual music performance of the cities which are historically and civilizationally connected to Emperor Constantine. The thread that binds these two cities is certainly the main idea of cultural link of students, i.e. young artists.
Planned activities within the project EXCHANGE 2013:
6-10th June: twelve singers from „The 24“and its conductor travel to Serbia, perform in Niš and the surrounding area within the celebration of the anniversary of the Edict of Milan
13-16th June: Serbian singers of the Faculty of Arts, University of Niš perform in York. In both cities, the concerts will be a part of the celebration ceremony marking this wordly significant anniversary. The repertoire will be jointly determined by both conductors. For this opportunity, it is planned to perform the new, specially-composed works.
